Year 2

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Term one has been very busy and productive. We would like to take this opportunity to thank year two for their hard work and dedication to their learning.

In English our focus has been information reports. After reading a variety of model texts we were able to identify the features of reports and develop ideas to write our own reports about various topics. Through this process, students have begun to develop skills such as brainstorming, forming paragraphs, learning to punctuate, draft and create a final copy.

Maths has seemed to be a classroom favourite this term as students have focused on place value of two and three-digit numbers, mental addition strategies, measurement of length and calculation of probability. Students have been immersed in engaging lessons using various concrete materials such as place-value charts, rulers, counters, and MAB.

Integrated studies was heavily focused on educating our students of the concept of past, present and future. Students made their own reflections based on their family members’ experiences in comparison to their own. We also took a dive into Australia’s great history and its many landmarks. Students were required to research and develop a poster based on an Australian landmark as an assessment piece. Students also presented their findings to their classmates.

STEM has been a fabulous addition to our curriculum as it allows students work alongside their peers to design, create and problem solve for each task they are presented with.

In visual arts our focus has been on the element line and patterns. Students have been introduced to various artists and their impact on art today. Performing arts has had a focus on different cultures and how they use the element of dance and movement to express themselves.

In ICT lessons students have been focusing on becoming more independent with electronic devices. Students have practised logging onto devices independently and using various search engines to investigate learning topics for English and integrated studies assessments.

Health has seen students develop self-reflection and personal growth as they learn about building relationships with others. Physical education has been filled with minor games where students have been focusing on score keepings, following game rules, sportsmanship and teamwork.

This term has shown that students have made huge progress and have settled into learning with ease. We look forward to what term two brings. Have a safe and wonderful term break.

Yours in education,
Miss Tzourtzouklis and Ms Karatekeli
